Because We Are Sisters is a grassroots 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation comprised of women from diverse backgrounds who recognize that everyone needs a mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, a mentor and a friend now and then.

Our Mission is to proactively connect families in need, volunteers, and resources through community-based projects that promote self-sufficiency and improve overall quality of life. Together we care, commit, connect and cause positive change to help families thrive, not just survive.

Our Philosophy We believe that every life is connected and our goal is to have a positive impact on 7 key focus areas that improve quality of life: beginnings, empowerment, celebration, advocacy, unity, support and education. One definition of cause is a person or thing acting voluntarily, or involuntarily, as the agent that brings about an effect or result. Individual action or inaction has an impact on others, intentionally or not.

Our Focus is on helping those who volunteer and those who receive help to proactively be the cause for change, not just join one. We are many hands but one heart committed to making a difference in thought, word, and deed.

Our Strategy is to provide the tools and resources families need to increase protective factors that research has shown improves health and well-being of communities and reduces the risk for child neglect and abuse. These include:

• Nurturing and attachment
• Knowledge of parenting and of child and youth development
• Parental resilience
• Social connections
• Concrete support for parents

We are not born knowing how to dream. We learn how when someone presents an alternative reality and assures us that nothing is beyond our reach. Our thoughts, words, and actions are powerful. They can make us complacent or committed, they can wound or inspire.
