What We Do

Sisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other. ~Carol Saline

Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together. ~Vista M. Kelly

  • Perspectives on Poverty
  • The Perspectives on Poverty initiative will help expand views and challenge assumptions about women and children in crisis one story at a time. We are passionate about helping families build upon and celebrate existing strengths while creating a future full of possibilities.

Women who are in, or have emerged from, tough financial situations will be given an online forum to share their own stories in various mediums including video, photographs, poetry, artwork, or the written word. Our hope is to empower and inspire by breathing the complexities of real life into faceless statistics. The website is currently under construction so check back soon to learn more.

  • Community Connections
  • We support local organizations that provide critical resources to those experiencing hunger or homelessness and for community-based projects that enable us to do a lot with a little. Donations from our volunteers and supporters have given us the opportunity to provide support for initiatives that improve quality of life.

    • Children in Crisis Care Packages: Deliver items such as diapers, clothing, toys, food, formula or baby gear to women and their children in immediate need.
    • Backpacks in Monroe Park: In July, we partnered with Diamondz Are Forever Social Group to distribute backpacks and food in Monroe Park.
    • Shelter Support: Provide crisis care packages to women and children living in homeless, domestic violence or transitional housing shelters including cribs, clothing, personal care items, diapers and toys.
    • Central Virginia Foodbank: Thanks to everyone who supported Thanksgiving in August to support the work of CVFB
    • Pecan Acres Girl Scout Troop: Sponsorship for a group of young girls from low income housing who are in need of art supplies, handbooks, sashes and uniforms as they pursue their dreams.
